China’s annual new energy passenger vehicle end-user sales hovered at around the 1-million-unit mark in 2018–2020, but skyrocketed to 3 million units in 2021, bringing excitement and fervor to the entire sector. Automakers and associations are now forecasting sales of 5 million units in 2022 and 10 million units in 2025…

YRI wants to offer our own analysis, and this report will try to look deeper into the underlying reasons behind the phenomenal growth in 2021. Was it pure luck or were there inherent strengths? We will look at the components that will make up that 10-million-unit market, but also throw some cold water and point out potential pitfalls amid the gushing growth.
